What is a Pilgrimage? And where am I going? This might help explain the title of this blog.
- pil·grim·age (pĭl'grə-mĭj) - A journey to a sacred place
- Ti·ber (tī'bər) - A river of central Italy flowing about 406 km (252 mi) south and southwest through Rome to the Tyrrhenian Sea at Ostia.
- Galilee, Sea of or Lake Ti·be·ri·as (tī-bîr'ē-əs) - A freshwater lake of northeast Israel. About 214 m (700 ft) below sea level, it is fed and drained by the Jordan River.
I leave Vancity on May 4th, 2010 for Rome (4 days), Jerusalem (18 days) and the Sea of Galilee (4 days). To be honest, I'm not really sure what to expect. I look forward to exploring Rome, eating real pizza, seeing the Holy Land, learning about Middle-Eastern politics and history, and walking along the shore of Galilee - but I will be away from home for almost a month. I already miss my girls... and I haven't even left yet!
I will try to consistently chronicle my somewhat maniacal musings on this blog (or at the very least, some photos of my adventure!). Please stop by, comment, and say "hi!"
This is it P. Al, all your bags are packed and you are ready to go. Just like you say today, this is it - there is no turning back now! That's right - This is it!
ReplyDeleteNow, let the journey begins.......
Go and see with your own eyes, touch with your own hands, feel with your own heart all of these wonderful things you have only learned from the many books, many art pieces or many inspiring people all these years. Isn't it true, most times the very thing that can come to inspire us is through just reading or learning through some one or some thing. So P. Al, this really is an opportunity of a life time and may this journey brings you inspiration and reflection on all that you have learned and shared with us all these years.
And may this new blog of your journey be about making new footprints. I love the question posed by Randy Pausch in his book The Last Lecture: "What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? If we had to vanish tomorrow, what would we want as our legacy?" As parents, friends, pastors etc... that question is often hard to answer. The footprints we make will be our legacy for others to learn from us.
One anonymous quote that I found says this: "The footprints you leave behind will influence others. There is no person who at some time, somewhere, somehow, does not lead another."
So P.Al, thanks for the many years of influencing me and may this journey of yours be inspiring to you and to all of us who join you on this new journey.....
Wow! thanks for the comment!
